Meager thread of thoughts on the god thing

The first test of free will is deciding whether or not to believe that there are gods.

Belief in gods is one of humanity's oldest metaphors, perhaps the archetype metaphor.

The one god religions, judaism, islam, christianity, are obviously different from most other religions which honor many gods and goddesses. Is that barren desert landscape in which they developed responsible for this?
